Youth Health Care Services
The maternity nurse is gone, now what?
From the moment you become a father or mother, you are faced with many different challenges. Some things come naturally, but you may also encounter difficulties or have questions.
GGD IJsselland monitors children aged 0-18. We are available to assist you and ensure that your child receives the necessary health examinations. We also give your child vaccinations against infectious diseases. On www.ggdijsselland.nlyou will find all information about the Youth Health Care Services (JGZ) provided by GGD IJsselland.
What do the Youth Health Care Services of GGD IJsselland do?
You may have come across us when you were pregnant, during a prenatal home visit or an information session. If not, our youth nurse will visit you at home when your child is about two weeks old. You can then get acquainted and discuss your baby’s care, growth, nutrition and development. In addition, the youth nurse will tell you what to expect from Youth Health Care Services of GGD IJsselland. We will call you in advance to make this appointment, which is usually at the end of the maternity week.
When your baby is about three weeks old, you will visit the consultatiebureau (child healthcare centre) for the first time. Your baby will be weighed and measured by the assistant. The appointment itself is with the youth physician, who will assess your child and discuss how you are doing. You can also ask questions. In consultation, a follow-up appointment is made. The appointments alternate between the youth physician and the youth nurse.
Do you have a question between visits?
It is wonderful to have a child, but it is not always easy. Do you have questions or doubts between visits? For example about feeding, sleeping, cramps or parenting? Then you can always contact the Youth Health Care Services of GGD IJsselland on business days. You can call us (088 – 443 07 02) or email us (jeugdgezondheidszorg@ggdijsselland.nl). You can also drop by during our walk-in consultations. Go to www.ggdijsselland.nl for the dates and times of the walk-in clinic in your area.
What can you do if things are not going so well?
Sometimes situations may arise in which things are not going so well with your child or with the rest of your family. In these cases, too, you can always turn to the GGD. Experts from several disciplines work there who can provide advice and support. Within the CJG, there is a network from which help and guidance can be offered if necessary.
